Only in America could you find a way to make a healthy buck /
And still keep your attitude on self-destruct
WE live in America where otherwise banal commentary can be revered as words from a sage if spoken from a celebrity. (If the celebrity said it or not…)
Mad Men: Season 4.8: “The Summer Man”
“People tell you who they are, but we ignore it - because we want them to be who we want them to be.” - Don Draper
One of the most frustrating things about thriving in the creative process is having visions that no one else can see or even understand if you tried to paint a picture with words. On the other side of this coin, that is the frustration that separates the boys from the men.
Many either lack the drive, resources, or perseverance to have their visions realized. But then there are those that won’t rest until their ideas can be purged from the mind and manifested into the physical world, be it something you can see, touch, and/or feel. There is a high that comes with seeing an idea you had brought into fruition, no matter the scale and no matter how many times you do it. (Kinda like sex, you’ll do it hundreds upon hundreds of times in your life, but it’ll never get old.) Anywho, the most important thing to realize is that with all of the rhetoric and quotes that the blogoshpere and twitter-philosophers inundate you with on a daily basis, is that you should be the person that actually lives those thoughts. Better yet, you have your own. A great deal of life is rooted in your endeavours and more often than not it is exactly what people will remember you for. There isn’t a person on the face of this planet that wouldn’t like to be remembered for something great. We can all be legends in our own skin. Whatever your path in life and however you pursue it, go ape-shit with it. Obsession can be a good thing if that energy is channeled into a worthy subject. Yes - love, laugh, and live - but your legacy will exist long after your body. And that impact could ripple through generations. But I digress…
The funny thing about any momentous event in existence (big or small) is that they all started the same way - the decision to try.
